2. Permissions and Data Usage
SafeBlock Download Blocker requires certain Chrome permissions to function effectively. Below is a summary of each permission and why it is needed:
- storage: Used to securely store your download blocklist, blocking settings, PIN protection, scheduling information, and blocking statistics on your device. No data is sent to external servers.
- downloads: Allows the extension to monitor and block download attempts based on your settings.
- declarativeNetRequest: Uses Chrome’s built-in API to block and redirect network requests related to downloads in real time.
- declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess: Required to block downloads from user-defined domains for effective download blocking.
- tabs: Allows the extension to update or close tabs when a blocked download is detected, and to open the statistics page.
- webNavigation: Detects attempts to initiate downloads via manual URL entry, bookmarks, or redirects.
- alarms: Enables automatic blocking or unblocking of downloads at scheduled times (e.g., during work hours).
- <all_urls>: Required to detect and block restricted downloads on any website specified by the user. Without this permission, the extension cannot perform its core function.
